Sanctum of eternity faceless menace2/3/2024 While it is not their sole focus, many of her charges have found that these skills provide an escape from a life of menial toil and provide a path towards acceptance and respect that might otherwise be denied to followers of a Firstborn like Ixiad. Her focus on the binding power of the written word is near absolute, and as a primarily unintended side-consequence, this has led to many of Ixiad’s mortal followers becoming masters of legal system manipulations and law advocates of considerable skill and repute. Loyalty, friendship, and duty, these are all lies, and devotion can only be guaranteed by the power of the contract. Now, having recently escaped that foul place, she teaches her mortal charges that trust is an illusion, for those closest to you are the ones best equipped to deal you the most harm. With the aid of a former Dragonknight of Ixiad turned traitor, Ixiad was cast into the Far Realm and imprisoned for countless generations, unable to affect the material plane or contact her followers as the madness of that place ate away at her very mind. Although this reversed the fortunes of the Firstborn in that terrible war, the demons and their ancient sovereign, the Hell King, chafed under the terms of their pact-bondage. Long gone from the world of mortals, in ages past she bound the nascent Demons and turned them against the Angels of the Celestial Host. Ixiad is the black and crimson-scaled maker of deals, sealer of contracts, and binder of the Demonic. She is the Oath-Taker or She Who Walks The Strands, but most simply know her as Ixiad, the Spider Dragon. It removes tactical decisions in a way why do anything but rush the boss if there's an infinite swarm jumping in behind him?Īll in all, I was pretty happy with the expansion and look forward to seeing more work of this quality from Obsidian in the future. From the dark heart of an ancient forest, eight unblinking crimson eyes and the sound of ink on parchment pierce through the umbral silence. Also, I really wish they would stop adding mobs in the beginning of a boss fight. All of the bosses felt a bit hp bloated - watching your empowered missile storm only chip away a fraction of health is disheartening. The laserbeam fight sucked in a game with disengagement. The only complaints I have were the bosses. I think the obvious candidate is Magran, but who knows?įinally, it presents you with a clear, meaningful choice at the end. The fact that Eothas had to possess Waiden makes him unlikely. And best of all, it seems like there's one missing titan body. The potential for Apotheosis, given that Skaen used to be human. Wilder histories we don't know about (Orlans were considered wilder in that). The dlc introduced potential of creator gods (which seems doubtful). There's the potential stirrings of apocalypse (not feeling great about reforging the Crown of Woedica). The best part of the writing was the expansion of the lore and many, many hooks for the next game. Fassima is a bit weak mechanically, but narratively she's pretty interesting. They also expanded two of the most interesting sidekicks. I really hope Tayn is a party member in the next game. He's a wonderful mix as both profoundly unreliable, but possibly benevolent and surprisingly competent. ![]() Focusing on three main npcs provides some much better options for characterization. Beast of Winter felt too short, and Seeker / Slayer / Survivor was not really writing-focused. The writing was much more consistent in this one too. There were lots of different ways to solve different problems, but some neat fights too. The dungeon it adds feels less linear than BoW, with multiple side rooms and a few good choices with meaningful consequences on the way through. While less innovative than either Beast of Winter or Seeker/Slayer/Survivor it's far more polished, and really adds where the game needs it. Forgotten Sanctum is by far my favorite DLC.
